Healthcare Reform- Improving access and quality by giving Americans
choices.
America
has the best health care technology and personnel in the world, but that is not
the problem. The problem is cost of healthcare and lack of access for tens of
millions of Americans. With that taken into account America
ranks below many industrialized nations and just ahead of Slovenia and Cuba in overall rankings of health
systems. Increasing access, reducing administrative cost, increasing choice and
healthcare options are keys to solving this crisis and the American Centrist
Party supports all of those along with helping Americans to prevent disease.
Thus, the American Centrist Party supports the Healthy Americans Act as
introduced by Oregon Senator Ron Wyden.
The ACP agrees with the Healthy Americans Act proposed by
Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon.
For space purposes links to the details of the bill are at http://wyden.senate.gov/issues/Legislation/Healthy_Americans_Act.cfm
Some breakdown on the Healthy Americans Act
- Basically
it offers the same plan to all Americans that Congress and government
officials have access to.
- Takes
the burden of searching for insurance plans for their employees off of
American business.
- The
cost that employers will but into helping to pay for insurance will be
decreased. Helping our economy and businesses to grow stronger and more
competitive.
- This
can be paid for with the current amount America spends on health care
and actually save 1.48 trillion dollars over ten years.
5. States would be in charge of administering
and setting up programs in each state.
- Health coverage will not be mandatory
(This is an ACP specific proposal to the Healthy American Act)
- Health
coverage is a choice for individuals not the government
- Those
who choose not to insure themselves will be responsible for all medical
costs they incur. Failure to pay in full or arrange a payment schedule or
pay consistently on time will result in legal action (prison, fines
and/or liens against their pay) against them.
Illegal Aliens
whether children or adults will not be eligible for this program.
The plan, known as the Healthy
Americans Act, would:
- guarantee private health care coverage for all Americans;
- provide health benefits equal to those that Members of Congress now
enjoy;
- provide incentives for individuals and insurers to focus on
prevention, wellness and disease management;
- establish tough cost containment measures that save $1.48 trillion
over 10 years; and
- Be fully paid for with the $2.2 trillion currently spent on health
care in America
today.
Prescriptions
from other nations:
Holding to the ACP's belief that Americans should have the most freedom to
live their lives safely and happily, the ACP believes that if it is more
cost-effective for Americans to purchase prescription medications from other
nations, then they should not be prevented from doing so. So long as the
medications are manufactured with the same attention to safety and quality as
those sold in the United
States, then there is no reason to forbid
Americans from getting the best value for their money.
The ACP will not be swayed by any corporate motivations that
do not enrich the lives of the average American citizenry. The American
People are what make this country great. They should be protected and
promoted by their government, not restricted.
