Foreign Relations:
Asia & Pacific Rim
Asia and the Pacific Rim is probably more important to America’s
foreign relations for the first time now than since the Vietnam War. Strong
ties must be built and maintained with the former Soviet republics for
terrorism reasons, democratic reforms and energy. China
and India
are now economic powers and are emerging military powers. There are old
tensions that could erupt into conflict and America
must be strong in Asia and the Pacific Rim, we
must be strong for our peace, our interests and our allies. A developing Asia
and Pacific Rim is good for America,
as it opens up new markets and trading potential but America
must promote a democratic and responsible Asia and Pacific
Rim. Thus, the American Centrist Party supports:
- The ACP believes that we should continue
to foster ties with the former Soviet republics to continue the spread of
democracy. We continue to forge economic and energy ties with them
- Our relationship with India must be a strong one. India
is the world’s largest democracy and is a fast growing economic power.
Military and economic cooperation with India
is a great balance to the growing power in the region of China.
- Our relationship with Pakistan is one that must be
strong. We must support democratic reforms within Pakistan but overall for American security
and world security we must have strong leadership in Pakistan that not only
controls the nation but its military. The ACP will not tolerate Islamic
radical fundamentalists to gain power in Pakistan,
if they do gain control of Pakistan
they also gain control of nuclear weapons. The ACP believes that America
must take all necessary steps to prevent this from happening. All aid we
provide to Pakistan
must be given in stages as security and economic reforms are gained in
stages as well. We will not throw American taxpayers money away for empty
promises.
- We will continue to promote economic and
democratic reforms and ties with Southeast Asia
and work with their governments to combat terrorism.
- Our alliance with Australia must be maintained
and built upon, joint military exercises must continue and we must
continue to build upon our shared values of democracy, peace and freedom.
- We must continue to have fair not just
free trade agreements with South Korea,
Japan and Taiwan.
- We will help defend Taiwan if they are invaded by China
without provocation. We will let Taiwan
know it is not in the best interest of our alliance for them to declare
independence from China.
- Continue to build ties with Japan and encourage them to take more of a
military leadership role within their own nation and in Asia.
It is not World War II anymore and we must encourage Japan to grow militarily to
defend itself and be a vital ally.
- Work with China
and Japan
to ease tensions between them.
- Work with Japan to decrease and then
eliminate illegal whaling and dolphin hunting.
