Voting Reform-Fair, True Choice, Viable

Instant Runoff Voting ( IRV)

The American Centrist Party supports Instant Runoff Voting (IRV) in all federal elections and supports each state in the United States to determine IRV by ballot measures or by legislative vote.

Basically IRV is:
IRV is a voting system for single-winner elections that guarantees majority winners in a single round of voting. IRV allows voters to vote their hopes instead of their fears by ranking candidates in order of preference without worrying about spoiler dynamics or wasted votes. IRV also eliminates the need for low-turnout, high-cost runoffs. (www.instanrunoff.com)

From Jon Ross of the ACP: “Using an Instant Runoff Voting System would require voters to rank the candidates they want. If their candidate after the initial round of voting ends up in last place, those ballots that were cast for that candidate are reassigned based on the rankings. This would either happen immediately or in order to create a majority. Voters would be more willing to place their vote in a third party if they had assurance that if that candidate does not have a viable chance, their vote will still make a difference. This also would eliminate talk of "spoilers" in elections because those minor candidates’ votes will be redistributed.”
